What is GoldenGate?
Oracle GoldenGate (OGG) provides near real-time transactional data replication. Replication may be uni-directional, bi-directional or multi-dimensional. Replication can involve several sources and targets simultaneously and be used for distributing data for backup, hot standby, auditing, reporting, warehousing and load distribution (etc). Data may be replicated as is, or the replicated data may be edited, transformed, split into different distributions, have meta data added, or filtered. Both DMLs and DDLs may be replicated in whole or in part.

How GoldenGate Works?
The advantage of GoldenGate is that it can replicate the data between heterogeneous databases and it can work on heterogeneous platforms as well. The source data could be Oracle or Non- Oracle.
GlodenGate Replication Flow
The typical GoldenGate flow shows new and changed database data being captured from the source database. The captured data is written to a file called the source trail. The trail is then read by a data pump, sent across the network, and written to a remote trail file by the Collector process. The delivery function reads the remote trail and updates the target database. Each of the components is managed by the Manager process.
