In this post, I have discussed the recent changes made in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure as of October 2018.  If you are new to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure I would suggest you  check our previous blog on  Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)  (Region, AD, Tenancy, Compartment, VCN, IAM, Storage Service)

For OCI: New Feature in Aug 2018 check here

OCI New Features: OCT 2018

Deleting the Compartments

If you have just started on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and Don’t know what is a compartment, then please check our previous post on  Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)  (Region, AD, Tenancy, Compartment, VCN, IAM, Storage Service)

Before Updates OCT 2018, you can only create the compartment and rename the compartment, means you cannot delete the compartment once it is created. However, as of Updates OCT 2018, you can also delete the compartment the only pre-requisite you have to follow before deleting the compartment is To delete a compartment, it must be empty of all resources. Before you initiate deleting a compartment, be sure that all its resources have been deleted or terminated, including any policies attached to the compartment.

Note:  If a compartment containing these resources then it cannot be deleted. The resource types that can’t be deleted are:

  • Tag namespaces and tag key definitions
  • Data transfer jobs

NAT Gateway

One of the new features added in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is Network Access Translation Gateway (NAT Gateway) which allows your Instance created in private to have access to the internet without exposing those resources to incoming internet connections.

So if you don’t know you can create an instance in both the subnet ie. private and public subnet wherein public subnet have default access to internet and private subnet doesn’t have any internet access to it, so in order to have internet connecting to your private subnet you can use NAT Gateway and it is one of the best practices in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).

I started my IT career in 2000 as an Oracle DBA/Apps DBA. The first few years were tough (<$100/month), with very little growth. In 2004, I moved to the UK. After working really hard, I landed a job that paid me £2700 per month. In February 2005, I saw a job that was £450 per day, which was nearly 4 times of my then salary.
