This blog post covers the issue & fix that most of us encounter while performing any action like Installing IIS server in the Windows Virtual Machine.

Azure Virtual Machines offer scalable computing resources in the cloud, allowing us to deploy a variety of operating systems and applications. They enable the quick deployment of virtualized computer systems that can handle a wide range of workloads. Azure VMs offer both Windows and Linux platforms, meeting a wide range of customer needs.

With capabilities like as auto-scaling and high availability, virtual machines (VMs) provide consistent application performance and uptime. They work smoothly with other Azure services, allowing for convenient management and automation using Azure Resource Manager. It also provide cost-effective solutions for development, testing, and production environments, allowing organizations to optimize their IT infrastructure.

While Installing IIS server through PowerShell inside the Windows VM, we get this error : Not Enough memory resources are available

Error message

Cause of ERROR

While creating the Virtual Machine you need to select the SKU size of the VM. The SKU size selected might be smaller Size i.e Standard B1s (1 vcpu, 1 GiB memory) which is not sufficient to perform further tasks in the VM. For a Windows VM you should have at least 2 vCPU and 4 GiB memory to work properly.

FIX of ERROR

You need to resize the Virtual Machine to bigger size so that you can perform further activities inside the VM like installing IIS server without any issue.

To resize the VM:

1. First go to your Virtual Machine

VM overview

2. Scroll the left pane to Availability + scale options & select Size.

Availability+ scale

3. Click on Search Bar

B2s size

4. On the search bar Type B2s & click on that B2s size then finally click on the Resize option.

vm resize

5. Select Resize once prompted

Resize

6. It will take around 10 minutes to get resized

I started my IT career in 2000 as an Oracle DBA/Apps DBA. The first few years were tough (<$100/month), with very little growth. In 2004, I moved to the UK. After working really hard, I landed a job that paid me £2700 per month. In February 2005, I saw a job that was £450 per day, which was nearly 4 times of my then salary.
