In the rapidly evolving digital world, the ability to seamlessly integrate diverse applications, automate business processes, and ensure data flows smoothly between systems is vital for any organization. Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC) is a powerful platform that enables this seamless connectivity by offering a robust environment for creating, managing, and monitoring integrations. Among the many features of OIC, one of the most critical is the ability to manage Integration Instances effectively. This blog will guide you through the essentials of Integration Instances in OIC, covering what they are, how to manage them, and best practices to ensure your integrations run efficiently.

This Blog covers step-by-step instructions to create the Oracle Integration Cloud Instance to practice integrations as mentioned in our Step-by-Step Hands-On Guides that you must perform.

What is an Integration Instance in OIC?

An Integration Instance in Oracle Integration Cloud refers to a specific execution of an integration flow. When you design an integration in OIC—whether it’s a simple data transfer between two systems or a complex orchestration involving multiple endpoints—each time this integration is triggered, an instance is created. This instance represents the process flow, capturing the data movement, transformations, and logic execution as defined in the integration.

Key Points to Know before Creating OIC Instance:

1) There is only one way to create the OIC Instance:

  • Custom Instance (Preferred): In this, you have options to select features and the number of message packs.

2) In this type of Oracle Integration Instance, Oracle will manage instance, performance, backup, patching, upgrade, etc.

3) This type of Oracle Integration Instance is created on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).

In Custom Install it looks like this:

Steps to Create the Oracle Integration Cloud Instance:

Provision/configure Oracle Integration using Custom Options:

  1. Open the navigation menu. Under Developer Services, go to Application Integration and click Integration.
  2. click on create instance a new pop-up will show to fill your details and requirements.
  3. Provide a Meaning name , Select edition of your choice, enterprise edition is best it supports some more adapters , select the shape and no of message packs you need.
  4. Wait for the provisioning to complete. Once the provisioning completed, you can click on the created instance to view the details.
  5. The instance is now in Active state.

This is all in nutshell about creating an Oracle Integration Cloud instance.

Conclusion

Managing Integration Instances is a critical aspect of using Oracle Integration Cloud effectively. By understanding how instances are created, monitored, and managed, you can ensure that your integrations run smoothly, handle failures efficiently, and maintain high availability and performance. With the best practices outlined in this blog, you can confidently manage your OIC integrations, ensuring they deliver the desired outcomes for your business.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an Integration Instance in OIC?

An Integration Instance in Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC) is an execution environment where an integration flow runs. It processes the data, executes the business logic, and orchestrates between various endpoints as defined in the integration.

How can I monitor the status of an Integration Instance?

You can monitor the status of an integration instance in the OIC Dashboard. It provides real-time status, success or failure indicators, and detailed error logs if any issues occur.

How can I retry a failed Integration Instance?

You can retry a failed Integration Instance directly from the OIC Console. Navigate to the Monitoring section, select the failed instance, and click on the resubmit option.

Can I edit an Integration Instance after it is created?

You cannot directly edit an instance once it is created. However, you can modify the integration flow in the Designer and activate a new version. The new version will apply to all future instances.

How do I deactivate an Integration Instance?

To deactivate an integration instance, navigate to the Integrations page in OIC, select the active integration, and click on Stop. This stops the integration from running.

I started my IT career in 2000 as an Oracle DBA/Apps DBA. The first few years were tough (<$100/month), with very little growth. In 2004, I moved to the UK. After working really hard, I landed a job that paid me £2700 per month. In February 2005, I saw a job that was £450 per day, which was nearly 4 times of my then salary.
